The Redkey Sanitarium started out as the Butler Mansion. The Butler Family owned Butler Glass. When Marietta Glass bought out Butler Glass, The family sold to Dr. Resenkrants. Dr. Rosenkrants opened an opium rehab near the turn of the century. When he passed away, his son took over the business. The young Dr. Rosenkrants turned from drug addiction to a tuberculosis hospital. He did not treat only TB patients, but a wide variety of illness and mental distress. When young Dr. Rosenkrants's son was murdered by a patient, his wife left him. In a fit of depression the yound doctor committed suicide. After that it was converted to apartments and housed POWs for a while.

It is a very active location.

SPPI is the only tours permitted to go inside. Mist is commonly found in photos. Orbs and faces have been found as well. Children laughing and EVPs can be recorded here.

Eventually, the new owner will complete the refurbishing and a museum will grace the main floor of this magnificent structure.
